We are a big fan of distributing content through multiple channels and in different formats. Sure, there are complexities. It costs more [cash and/or time] to re-format and maintain the necessary accounts. So why bother?
For marketing and analytic insights. Get outside your market and usual audience to see if it makes sense. The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead in Fargo North Dakota has done just that by publishing a recent series of articles as a Kindle ebook. Titled Vistas and Visions: Microsoft in Fargo, it’s available on Amazon for $.99.
In an interview with the Nieman Journalism Lab at Harvard University they shared that while the results have been meager it’s more about the process and learning experience. They are creating new workflows and competencies. Smart thinking.
We have a three marketing thoughts for The Forum to consider for their next effort (they plan more).
One, get your Author Page (AuthorCentral at Amazon) pages filled out. No charge and it’s another way to build awareness of your authors. Important since you plan more releases.
Expand on the description! Simply referring to “The Forum” means nothing to me outside North Dakota. (Especially since there is no author page.) This is a well-reported piece from a credible newspaper. If people knew that you might sell more copies.
Finally, make a little more noise. It isn’t clear to me that you issued a formal release. In situations like this it’s a good thing to call attention to your creative thinking.
