eBook Publishing

Publishers are faced with a range of options when it comes to eBook conversion and publishing.  A key question is how much of the publishing process you want to manage. Usually those choices fall into three areas:Your Books Here-eBook development, conversion and distribution
1. Producing the eBook or print-on-demand book
2. Distribution to one or more online retailers
3. Marketing
Our eBook development services assist two types of customers:
1. Publishers and author-publishers of previously published print books.
2. “Digital first” authors—authors seeking to self-publish their manuscript as an eBook (Kindle, Nook, Sony, Apple, etc) before publishing in print.

Our prices are based on length, number of images, linking requirements, footnotes and other special formatting requirements. Narrative fiction that does not have special formatting or a table of contents is the least expensive. All quotes are subject to review of your book and we offer special pricing based on the number of titles you plan to publish.

Digital-First eBooks

In our experience digital-first eBooks require design consultation early in the process to ensure the final product will meet expectations. We provide that guidance as well as input on formatting your manuscript in Microsoft Word. Our experience publishing in both print and digital formats gives us a unique perspective on managing the myriad of details to resolve before the book is considered final.

Terminology

eBook: business people in particular tend to think of an eBook as a PDF. The more modern view has expanded that definition to include file formats–specifically ePub and Amazon’s Mobi–that can be read on Kindle, Nook, iPad and other devices. Read this post for more information.
eBook Conversion: the process of converting an electronic file from formats like PDF, Word and InDesign to ePub and Mobi.
Designing an eBook: it is often difficult, impossible or inadvisable to try to make the interior pages of an eBook look exactly like they do in a print book. This is especially true of non-fiction books. Sidebars, photo placement, captions and footnotes are just a few conventions used in print books that need to be thought through differently for eBooks.
eBook Development: we use this term to refer collectively to the design and conversion of an eBook.
